Ficosa opens its third production center in China

The new factory, located in Shenyang, reflects Ficosa strong commitment to stay close to clients in order to offer a better service

Barcelona, May 21 2015.- Ficosa, a top-tier global provider dedicated to research, development, production and sales of safety, communication and efficiency systems for the automotive industry, reinforces its presence in China by opening a new production facility in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province. This is the third plant of the Catalan multinational in the Asian giant, where it was already present with factories in Taicang, which also hosts an engineering center, and Chongqing.

In the words of Javier Pujol, CEO of Ficosa: “The new factory in Shenyang is a decisive step in the company expansion plan in China, a key market in the growth strategy of the multinational. Since its foundation, Ficosa China has registered annual growth rates of over 20% in its turnover and we expect to continue with this growth in the coming years”.

The Shenyang plant, which covers an area of 10,000 square meters, expandable to 17,000, is expected to employ about 400 people over the next four years. These new facilities are principally engaged in producing rearview mirrors as well as automatic changeover systems and parking brakes for clients such as BMW, Brilliance, Great Wall and BAIC. Additionally, Ficosa has been chosen by BMW as its sole mirror supplier in China.

José Luis del Rey, CEO of Ficosa Asia, emphasizes: “The Shenyang plant not only reinforces the Ficosa’s business in China but also reaffirms the company commitment to local and international clients. This new plant, placed in Shenyang BMW Automobile Industrial Park, is in a strategic location that allows us to stay close to the OEM in order to provide a more efficient and effective service”. Del Rey adds: “With this same purpose, we plan to implement a new plant in southern China by 2017”.

Ficosa is present in China since 2002, initially with a license agreement with a local company, and since 2006 with a wholly owned subsidiary and an engineering center for projects development for the Chinese market, providing high value-added products tailored as required by the OEM. Today, Ficosa has about 8,700 employees in 18 countries around the world, 1,000 of whom are in China.
